North Cyprus Turtles
North Cyprus is home to loggerhead and green turtles both of which are endangered species. These turtles it is said can live for up to 160 years.

North Cyprus has over 80 beaches which are monitored in nesting season which is from May to October. The eggs are laid in the sand and hatch after about 50 days. It is thought that only one baby turtle in 2000 will make it to adulthood. After hatching the baby turtles make a bee line for the sea, they will stay here till they are mature and ready for mating themselves which will be after about 25 years.

The female turtle will lay about 4 nests with around 100 eggs in each one. Every time the turtles will return to the same nest site which is why these beaches are protected. Hatching time is August - September and there are a number of boating trips you can take to enjoy a better view.
